III HIGH SECURITY AND INTELLIGENCE TECHNOLOGIES, DRONES AND ANTIDRONES FAIR 2024 – Security Technology Fair
One more year, on May 8th and 9th, ARCENTECH visited TECNOSEC DRONEXPO 2024, the 3rd Exhibition of High Security and Intelligence Technologies, Drones and Antidrones. Like last year’s exhibition, this edition has not fallen short of our expectations.
Once again, this event brings together two sectors quite different at first sight. On one hand, the technologies associated with security, intelligence and resilience and, on the other hand, drones and antidrone systems. However, looking at them as a whole, one can see the complementarity of their different technologies focused on the need for security.
In addition to offering a global vision of the development of these technologies to all visitors, this fair allows the different institutions and law enforcement agencies to contact the exhibiting companies. This way, they can share all kind of technical solutions to the wide variety of challenges faced by society today.
As in previous years, multitude of presentations and round tables took place with a wide variety of very interesting topics. To organise them, the fair had three rooms prepared. TECNOSEC and DRONEXPO had one room exclusively dedicated to them while on the third one, different companies presented their products to the public visiting the fair.
Among all the talks, we would like to highlight one about U-Space. This is a set of services designed to help drone operators comply with current regulations, while enabling EU members to monitor the rise in unmanned aerial traffic. There were also other presentations of interest, one on regulatory advances affecting urban air mobility, another on the use of artifical intelligence in cybersecurity, and it is also worth noting the presentation on encryption of secure communications in 5G.
This year, the Spanish National Police celebrates its 200th anniversary so they had a significant presence at this fair. Several units of the National Police took part in this event and in the two stands they had, they displayed the latest technological advances they use in their operations. It is worth highlighting rapid identification systems, advanced chemical analysis equipment, aerial systems, an advanced command post and an underwater drone.
The robot SIRA got lots of attention. It is a bionic dog whose purpose is to intervene in all situations that might be risky for the police officers. All these systems show the state law enforcement agencies adaptation capacity vis-à-vis the risks of each time, which is necessary due to the technological advances of disruptive nature that are continuously under development.
In addition to other public institutions such as Guardia Civil, Tax Agency or the Municipal Police of Madrid, a great number of stands were occupied by private Spanish and international companies.
Among these companies, we would like to draw attention first to several of them whose main business is to erase files and disks from computers and servers. Given that the EU is very restrictive in terms of data protection, these companies focus in developing tools that allow full control over the data stored by public institutions and private companies. Other companies have focused in prevent the increasing problem of cyber-attacks with USB flash drives. They have developed devices that allow the use of USB and protect us from the 3 types of attacks that can be carried out this way at hardware, software and electrical level. According to the company visited, this allows global, safe and effective protection, while being certified by the highest competent autorithies in this area.
This year also, there were small Spanish companies that continue their research and development projects on drones and antidrone systems. At this fair, we saw that several stands displayed improvements in navigation systems, camcorders and advanced sensors, as well as new models of drones, both quadcopters and fixed-wing drones. While not all of their applications focused on security issues, such as surveillance or target recognition, it is true that most of them did. This shows that these systems have become a key factor in public safety so multitude of companies invest in these critical technologies.
Something that drew our attetion to this issue was the presence of companies involved in the development of drones, not only aerial, but maritime and even submarine. One of the stands displayed a remote-controlled boat over 7 meters in length, equipped with all kind of cutting-edge technology, from infrarred sensors and cameras to drone launchers able to extend this marine drone range much further.
Considering the above, we encourage everyone to visit these kind of events, because it is a great way to see first-hand how technology is advancing every year, developing new systems and applications with capabilities that were unthinkable a few years ago.
